
Hot-dip galvanized guardrails and powder-coated sprayed guardrails are the two most widely used fence products for municipal roads, residential communities, urban parks and factory campuses. The essential difference between them lies in the surface anti-corrosion treatment technology, which leads to obvious gaps in service life, structural performance, appearance and application scenarios.

Hot-dip galvanized guardrails adopt a high-temperature hot-dip galvanizing process. The steel substrate is completely immersed in molten zinc liquid, forming a dense zinc alloy protective layer on both the inner and outer surfaces of the steel pipe. This all-round coating structure leaves no anti-corrosion dead corners. This type of guardrail features excellent hardness, strong collision resistance and superior weather resistance. It can effectively resist ultraviolet radiation, acid and alkali corrosion, and is suitable for harsh environments such as coastal areas, high-humidity regions and industrial pollution zones. The service life can reach more than 20 years with almost no daily maintenance. Even if the surface is slightly scratched, the zinc layer has a self-protection function to prevent large-area rust spreading. The main disadvantages are the single industrial silver-gray appearance and relatively higher production cost.
Sprayed guardrails, also known as powder-coated guardrails, are processed by electrostatic powder spraying and high-temperature curing. The surface coating is smooth, delicate and rich in color, providing a beautiful decorative effect to match various architectural and landscape designs. With low manufacturing cost and convenient construction, sprayed guardrails have outstanding cost performance and are widely used in residential landscapes, indoor isolation and urban ornamental projects.
However, sprayed guardrails have obvious shortcomings in durability. The surface powder coating is thin and low in hardness, easy to peel off, crack and fall off under collision and friction. Since the inner wall of the steel pipe cannot be covered by spraying, moisture and air will cause internal rust from the inside out. In outdoor environments, the average service life is only 5 to 8 years, and regular repainting and maintenance are required to delay aging.
In engineering selection, hot-dip galvanized guardrails are the preferred choice for outdoor projects, harsh working conditions and long-term use scenarios. Sprayed guardrails are more suitable for conventional landscape projects that focus on appearance and budget control. For high-standard projects, the composite process of hot-dip galvanizing base + surface spraying is commonly used to achieve both ultra-long durability and aesthetic appearance.
